View Integrated OPC Driver Not Trusted

When installing Machine Edition 9.7 SIM 3, or 9.8 SIM 3 (and later), some PCs may experience similar error messages like shown below during installation of Machine Edition or the SIM.
Some error messages may also appear after an apparently successful installation while configuring an OPC Driver in Machine Edition View.

  • View OPC Driver Installation failed while validating the signature

  • View OPC Driver Not Trusted

  • A certificate chain could not be built to a trusted root authority

  • Missing View OPC Driver

  • Check OPCDriver.V5 is properly installed

The reason is Windows not properly recognizing the certificate of the View Integrated OPC Driver. This applies specifically to the actual version 5.21.296 which is deployed with ME 9.7 SIM 3 and 9.8 SIM 3. In these cases, Machine Edition software is usually still installed properly, but the Integrated OPC Driver missing.
Note: This solution does not apply to Machine Edition 9.5.
