How to Identify if a Profinet IO Device is Compatible With PACSystem Profinet System Redundancy

Description

PACSystems PROFINET System Redundancy (PNSR) requires the Profinet IO Devices support Profinet version 2.3 S2 type for redundancy, as of 2022.  This will likely be updated in 2023 as 2.4 is the current spec version.  The ‘S’ denotes that the IO Device has a single Profinet Scanner Interface. The ‘2’ denotes that the Profinet Scanner supports two connections as a set. Each of these connections will be established by one of two Profinet Controllers.  Only 1 of the controllers will control outputs and receive live inputs at a time.  This redundancy method allows for transfer of control to the other unit upon request.

Solution

The GSDML file provides information about the Profinet IO Device capabilities. In order to be compatible with the PACSystems PNSR the IO Device Must meet the following:
  1. GSDML file of version 2.3 or higher -- Note that the name of the file includes the version number per specified naming requirements                          User-added image
  2. GSDML Details Tab in the device configuration screen must show System Redundancy as TRUE and Device Type as S2

  • Double click on the Device in Navigator
  • Select GSDML details tab
  • Following properties can be seen:
Supports System Redundancy: TRUE
Device Type: S2
